Abeokuta is the largest city and state capital of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria. It is situated on the east bank of the Ogun River, near a group of rocky outcrops in derived savannah vegetation; the city is 79 km north of Lagos (commercial capital of Nigeria and Africa’s largest city) by road; while it is 66 km to Ibadan. The area has a mean annual temperature and rainfall of 27.1 °C and 1,238 mm respectively; the driest month in the year is December (13 mm) while the wettest month is June (197 mm).
